Model Overview

The XPENG G7 is a D-segment all-electric SUV built on XPENG's SEPA 2.0 architecture, officially launched on 3 July 2025. On 8 January 2026, the 2026 XPENG G7 debuted, adding a new Super Range Extender (EREV) powertrain option. The 2025 line-up comprised 3 variants priced between RM195,800 and RM225,800, whilst the 2026 line-up offers 4 variants priced from RM195,800 to RM205,800. Marketed as an "AI Smart Family SUV", its key rivals include segment benchmarks such as the Tesla Model Y and Xiaomi YU7.

Design Language

The XPENG G7 adopts the brand's signature "Robot Face" front fascia, centred around a "family tech aesthetics" design philosophy. The front features a semi-enclosed fascia with split full-width LED light bars, supporting dynamic interactive lighting signatures and adaptive high-beam assist. The 2026 range-extended version features a seamless continuous light strip, whilst the pure EV variant retains a fully closed front grille.

The side profile exhibits a sleek coupe-SUV silhouette with frameless doors and flush pop-out door handles. At the rear, full-width C-shaped LED tail lights echo the front lighting signature for an interactive visual identity. Dimensions for the 2025 model measure 4,892 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase; the 2026 range-extended variant sees its length stretched to 4,918 mm. The 2025 model is available in 6 exterior colours including Starry Daylight Grey and Crescent Silver, while the 2026 model introduces an exclusive "Starry Twilight Purple" paint finish.

The cabin is themed around the "Light Rhythm Utopia" concept, featuring a wraparound dashboard layout. It is equipped with a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and a column-mounted electronic gear selector, doing away with a conventional instrument cluster. The interior comes in 4 colour schemes, including Mystic Realm Blue and Warm Sun Orange, trimmed extensively in genuine wood and premium leather. Space utilisation reaches an impressive 88%, providing a standard boot capacity of 819 litres that expands up to 2,277 litres.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2025 range is exclusively single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD), delivering a maximum power output of 218 kW and 450 Nm of peak torque. Two battery configurations are on offer: a 68.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack delivering 602 km of CLTC range, and an 80.8 kWh pack providing 702 km. Energy consumption is rated at 12.9 kWh to 13.2 kWh per 100 km. The century sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.5 to 6.6 seconds, with a top speed of 202 km/h.

The 2026 line-up adds a Super Range Extender variant, combining a 1.5T high-efficiency range extender (110 kW) with a 218 kW rear drive motor. It is paired with a 55.8 kWh battery pack and a 60-litre fuel tank, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 430 km and an overall combined range of 1,704 km. The 0-100 km/h acceleration is completed in 6.9 seconds. The entire range comes standard with a full-domain 800V high-voltage SiC platform and 5C ultra-fast charging AI batteries. Plugged into an S5 supercharger, the BEV gains 497 km of range in 12 minutes, whilst the EREV adds 314 km in the same duration. 6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply comes standard across all variants.

Chassis & Handling

The XPENG G7 is underpinned by the Tai Chi AI Chassis system, featuring a front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension setup. Adaptive variable damping shock absorbers and Tai Chi hydraulic bushings are fitted as standard across the range. Integrated with driving assistance systems, the AI chassis scans ahead for speed bumps, uneven surfaces, potholes, and road crests using AI algorithms to actively adjust suspension damping in advance. Braking is handled by an IPB integrated brake control unit alongside a dTCS distributed traction control system, offering four drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual.

Cockpit & Equipment

On the digital front, the 2025 702 Ultra-Long Range Ultra variant runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip alongside a dedicated in-cabin Turing AI chip. The 2026 model gets the upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8295P chip running Tianji AIOS 6.0 as standard.

The dashboard embraces a clusterless layout, headlined by an 87-inch "Light Chasing Panoramic" AR-HUD—co-developed with Huawei, boasting a sustained brightness of 12,000 nits and an 1,800:1 contrast ratio—paired with a 15.6-inch floating central infotainment screen. High-spec 2026 models add an 8-inch rear entertainment display. Four-zone voice control recognition is standard across the board.

All seats are upholstered in premium Nappa leather. The front row features 12-way power adjustment for the driver and 10-way for the passenger, complete with heating, ventilation, and massage functions as standard. The front passenger seat includes a one-touch zero-gravity lie-flat mode. The rear seats also feature power adjustments, heating, ventilation, and massage. Acoustic performance is delivered via a 20-speaker bespoke Hi-Fi audio system with 7.1.4 panoramic surround sound. Other premium appointments include a heated steering wheel, soft-close doors on all four corners, three 50W air-cooled wireless smartphone charging pads, 256-colour ambient lighting, a bespoke active fragrance system, a digital streaming rear-view mirror, and a fold-out tray table behind the front passenger seat.

Safety & Advanced Driver Assistance

Autonomous driving capability stands as the G7's headline strength. The 2025 model offers two ADAS hardware architectures: the XNGP system with dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin X chips (508 TOPS) and the XNGP system with dual Turing chips (1,500 TOPS). The 2025 Ultra model is equipped with 3 proprietary Turing AI chips (two for ADAS and one for the cockpit), achieving a combined computing capacity of 2,250 TOPS. The entire line-up employs a pure vision-based perception system relying on high-definition cameras without LiDAR sensors. For 2026, Turing AI Smart Driving comes standard across all variants.

The architecture runs an end-to-end VLA+VLM large AI model entirely on-device, with the VLA-OL model establishing an advanced "motion cerebrum + cerebellum" control loop. City NGP and Highway NGP navigation assistance are standard across the range, capable of automated toll-gate passage, custom parking, and human-machine shared driving. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) can bring the car to a complete stop from speeds of up to 130 km/h. Passive safety features include front and rear integrated die-cast aluminium body structures and Cell-Integrated-Body (CIB) construction, complemented by 7 airbags as standard.

Market Performance & Reception

The XPENG G7 enjoyed a strong initial market debut, clocking 5,529 deliveries in July 2025 and climbing to 6,811 units in August. However, momentum stalled in September as sales plunged 56.7% month-on-month to 2,960 units, prompting industry observers to note that it struggled to sustain its initial sales momentum past the three-month mark. Following the debut of the 2026 EREV version, long-term market reception remains to be seen. Automotive reviews highlight the G7 as a well-rounded package; with standard 800V architecture, advanced ADAS, and lavish cabin appointments, it offers exceptional value in the RM200,000 SUV segment. Conversely, critics note that its exterior dimensions and cabin packaging remain average for the class, and the brand still faces headwinds establishing sustained volume in the market above RM200,000. As a core strategic SUV for XPENG, the dual-powertrain BEV and EREV strategy allows the G7 to cater to a much wider spectrum of family buyers.
